Once the site of the John Barry Dairy, the existing Southside Park is a 52-acre wooded park located on Paul Russell Road in Tallahassee, Florida. This new phase of the project is construction of a new municipal pool, recreation center, bathhouse, and support facilities.
The pool is a family-oriented facility equipped with a flume-type slide, shallow water play features, a minimum of four lap swimming lanes, and a pool surrounding which will include an additional leisure area for lounging and seating. The recreation center includes activities and areas such as basketball, central control office, gymnasium, multi-purpose meeting room, etc. while the bathhouse contains operational support functions including a lifeguard's office, toilet and shower facilities, and other pool support spaces. A separate pool equipment/storage building was constructed to house filtration and pump equipment, chemical feed system, and pool maintenance equipment. The new facility is used by the local community for aquatic and recreation activities, under the supervision of the Tallahassee Parks and Recreation Department.
